Art From America™

“As we build our Post-War and Contemporary art collections, the Hermitage Museum welcomes the Hermitage Museum Foundation’s Art from America™ program which is designed to expand the Museum’s holdings into the 21st century and beyond,” said Dr. Mikhail B. Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum. “The Hermitage has collections of great masterpieces from our 21 Rembrandts to many of the most significant and beautiful works of Matisse and Picasso. We welcome the opportunity to display the works of the great American artists of this period permanently in our new General Staff Building facilities. Art from America™ will allow us to curate new art that will become the history of tomorrow.”

The Hermitage Museum’s expansive renovation and redesign of St. Petersburg’s General Staff Building for the Museum’s 250th birthday in 2014 will open robust new state-of-the-art exhibition spaces to house the Museum’s prominent 19th, 20th and 21st Century collections, including Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art holdings while expanding exhibitions, acquisitions and loan programs with the world’s leading museums.

Hermitage Museum Foundation Chairman Paul Rodzianko said, “Many of the world’s most eminent artists, photographers and designers since the latter half of the 20th century have lived and worked in the United States and represent all manner of national origins. Many have special links with the Hermitage Museum and Russia and represent celebrated icons of artistic endeavor in both countries. We are thrilled that the HMF Art from America™ gifts will enhance Post-War Contemporary art collections in Russia and feature in the new state-of-the-art facilities to be unveiled in 2014.” He added, “Art from America™ will help complete that missing history of certain major global American artists."
